The Riad Ouliya was originally built in the 14th century by the Qayed (Commander) Bezari. This was a powerful man in Fez Medina, he was the representative of the Sultan of Morocco at that time. His family was also one of the richest families in that era with a lot of land that they were exploiting. The Riad is in the old Medina through Bab (Gate)Rcif. It is located 2 minutes walk from the gate and it was built in the center of the old city of Fez so that the Qayed will be closer to his people.

The restaurant Ouliya is next door to the Riad Ouliya. It was inspired by the kayed Bezari’s family who lived in the Riad about six centuries ago. The main dishes are the typical Fez specialties. The four different wives also inspired us to create a menu as it was served around 1400. Our Chefs are well-known in the culinary industry in Morocco. They do offer cooking classes to other Chefs nationally and Internationally. They also hold beginners classes for some of our guests to learn a few basic dishes to make. We also bring Chefs from the southern part of Morocco to improve our dishes and to add new specialties.
