Why you should put the city Fes on your “Traveling list”

Saint Augustine once said “the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”. Now there is no doubt that traveling is an important builder of the personality, enricher of the mind and it makes you realize that world is bigger and richer than you ever thought.

But in parallel there is an “as important as traveling” matter, which is picking your destination.

In this article we recommend you to choose and come to visit the city of Fes for the following brief reasons:

The History:

According to the unesco “Fes, Founded in the 9th century and home to the oldest university in the world (Alkaraouine ), Fes reached its height in the 13th–14th centuries under the Marinids, when it replaced Marrakesh as the capital of the kingdom. The urban fabric and the principal monuments in the medina – madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains – date from this period. Although the political capital of Morocco was transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fes has retained its status as the country’s cultural and spiritual centre”

And now it is classified as world heritage by the Unesco.

Each year a huge number of visitors all around the world come to Fes during the different 4 seasons, to enjoy the historical contemporary beauty of this city, and experiencing staying at a house dated to many centuries ago, called Riad

Riads :

According to the Bloomberg website “Riads are traditional Moroccan mansions built around an interior garden or courtyard, and much like in Marrakesh 15 years ago, riads-turned-luxury boutique hotels are driving much of Fes’s resurgence”

Riad Ouliya was originally built in the 14th century by the Kayed Bezari. This was a powerful man in the city of Fes. He was representing the Sultan of Morocco at that time. His family was also one of the richest families in that era.

Riad Ouliya is in the old medina through Bab Rcif Gate. It is about 3 minutes’ walk from the gate.
